OHIO VALLEY WASTE:  THE NEXT VOGEL HOLDING COMPANY TO BE FUELED BY CNG

Thanks to a grant from the Ohio EPA, Ohio Valley Waste received seven Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks in late, 2022. This is just the beginning of Ohio Valley Waste’s efforts to replace old diesel powered vehicles with trucks utilizing a cleaner fuel. This year, eleven more CNG trucks will be added to their fleet making even a greater impact to the air quality in local communities they serve.

Compressed natural gas is sustainable because its main component is methane, a gas from biological waste. It creates significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions than diesel.  Switching to CNG is the right choice for Ohio Valley Waste as it has been for other Vogel Holding companies, too. It has proven to be more cost effective and eco-friendly.

Aging diesel vehicles are a major contributor to air pollution across the country because nitrogen oxide emissions greatly contribute to ground-level ozone pollution.  As each new CNG truck arrives, an older diesel truck is taken off the road. This results in significant reductions of pollutants, especially in Ohio Valley Waste’s urban service areas.

Funding to help pay for the increase cost of CNG was awarded from dollars allocated to Ohio from the settlement of an enforcement action taken against Volkswagen, its affiliated companies by U.S. EPA and the state of California for violations under the Clean Air Act. The grant program is investing $75 million over 10 years to reduce nitrogen oxide pollution in Ohio.

Ohio Valley Waste is proud to be a part of the movement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and beyond by using a lower carbon fuel. Not only does CNG burn cleaner and costs less but its domestic availability and widespread distribution infrastructure makes it a great choice.
